You Steer, Your Squad Fires
Last Star is a 3D runner shooter on a starlit road in space. You lead a small squad headed by a fox with a blaster, and a whole army of sprouts is marching straight at you. Your squad fires on its own, so you never have to aim. Your job is the part that decides the run: where to steer.
Drag left and right to move the squad across the road. Gates roll toward you with numbers on them, star crates wait to be shot open, and barrels roll in with sprouts hiding behind them. Every few seconds there is a choice to make, and the size and strength of your squad at the end of the stage is the sum of those choices.
How to Play
- Drag to steer. Move your squad left and right across the road. On a keyboard, the arrow keys and A/D work too.
- Pick your gates. Some gates add troopers, some multiply your squad, and some take troopers away. Fire through a gate to push its number up before you reach it.
- Open star crates. Shoot them for more troopers or a gun upgrade, from blaster to star gun to triple shot.
- Free the heroes. Break open the capsules along the road and the heroes inside join your squad.
- Beat the boss. At the end of each stage a giant baobab blocks the road. Keep firing and step out of the warning ring when it slams the ground.
Three Heroes, Three Skills
The fox leads from the start, and its special skill fires foxfire bolts that pierce through enemies and leave flames behind. The rabbit fights with a flamethrower that locks on to the nearest enemy, and the bear can charge with a shield that knocks enemies back. Freeing both heroes changes how a stage plays, so the capsules are often worth steering toward even when a gate on the other side looks tempting.
Defeated sprouts fill your level bar. Every level up lets you pick one of three upgrades for the rest of the run, such as piercing rounds, multishot or explosive rounds. Stacking upgrades that work together is how a small squad ends up clearing the road.
Tips for a Stronger Run
- Shoot the gate you want. Fire pushes a gate's number up, so lining up early on a good gate makes it even better by the time you pass.
- Read the minus gates. A gate that takes troopers away still climbs toward zero as you shoot it. Sometimes it is the lesser cost.
- Grab gun upgrades early. A better gun from a star crate speeds up every fight that follows, including the boss.
- Watch the barrels. Sprouts hide behind rolling barrels. Clear them before they reach your squad.
- Move during the boss. The baobab's slam is marked by a warning ring. Step out, then line back up and keep firing.
Progress That Carries Over
Runs earn star shards whether you clear the stage or not. Spend them on permanent upgrades for your starting squad, bullet power and fire rate, so later runs start stronger. Clear a stage to move on to the next one; stages get harder as you go. Your stage, shards and upgrades are saved on this device.
The game itself is free, with no ads and no in-app purchases inside it, and there is no account or sign-in. Pick a side of the road and lead the squad forward.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I control my squad?
Drag left and right to steer. Your squad fires on its own, so you focus on choosing gates, crates and targets. On a keyboard, the arrow keys and A/D also steer.
How do the number gates work?
Some gates add troopers, some multiply your squad, and some take troopers away. Shooting a gate pushes its number up, so firing into a gate before you pass through it improves it.
Who are the heroes?
The fox leads your squad and its skill fires piercing foxfire. The rabbit uses a flamethrower that locks on to the nearest enemy, and the bear charges with a shield that knocks enemies back. Break open the capsules on the road to free the rabbit and the bear.
What is at the end of each stage?
A giant baobab blocks the road. It slams the ground and calls in more sprouts. Keep firing and step out of the warning ring to avoid its slam.
Is my progress saved? Do I need an account?
No account or sign-up is needed. Runs earn star shards for permanent upgrades, and your stage, shards and upgrades are saved in your browser on this device.
